Dubai malls gear up for non-stop Eid festivities
15 Oct 2013 Malls in Dubai are preparing to welcome visitors for the “Eid in Dubai- Eid Al Adha” celebrations from October 10-19. As part of Eid events, several shopping centres will be open until the early hours of the morning, with many open 24 hours for the first two days of Eid (October 15 and 16). The Eid in Dubai celebrations are organised by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). DFRE has been organising Eid in Dubai for six years in a row, with this year’s events held under the theme, “Eid Al Adha unites us in celebration”. The celebrations’ highlight will be the “Dubai 24 Hours” shopping initiative that was launched last year on a directive from His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Eight leading malls will be participating in “Dubai 24 Hours” on October 15 and 16, with shops and food courts open round the clock. On the other days of Eid in Dubai, they will be open 10am to 2am, with dining hours until 3am. Additionally, several other malls – including Mercato, Ibn Battuta Mall, BurJuman, Dubai Outlet Mall, Al Ghurair Centre and Wafi – will be open from 10am until midnight for Eid in Dubai. Some will stay open until the early hours of the morning. In addition to special offers and promotions, malls also plan to organise a variety of activities between October 10-19. The Dubai Mall will hold activities headlined by “Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience” on October 10. The event will showcase the world’s leading fashion brands, global celebrities and also raise funds for Dubai Cares. Deira City Centre, Mall of the Emirates, and Mirdif City Centre will host musical entertainment for families, in addition to other events. Mercato mall will run a promotion for the chance to win prizes from Virgin Megastore and Rotana Hotels. The “streets” of Mercato will come with a variety of “Cirque du Soleil inspired” entertainment and interactive workshops for children. BurJuman plans to stage shows and traditional folkloric entertainment during Eid in Dubai. Visitors can also watch the Candy Dance, featuring four performers dressed up in colourful and florescent costumes Al Ghurair Centre will host performances by street performers, an urban circus, jugglers, magicians and a modern Tannoura dance.
