Security of residents remains UAE’s top priority, Hazza says
06 Jun 2014 Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, affirmed that the security of Emiratis and residents is the UAE’s top priority and that any attempts to undermine the country’s security will not be tolerated. “Extending a helping hand to a brotherly or friendly state is the core of the policy UAE is keenly committed to: first, out of its recognition of its humanitarian duty and second, out of its keen interest in building the best relations with the rest of the world,” Shaikh Hazza said in an interview with the UAE Joint Command and Staff College magazine. He hailed the leading role UAE Armed Forces plays in peacekeeping operations around the world as part of UAE’s cooperation with international organisations. Speaking on the situation of labourers in the UAE, Shaikh Hazza affirmed the country’s commitment to international conventions, agreements and laws regulating foreign or expatriate labour relations. Freedom of speech He noted that laws which guarantee freedom of speech and expression also hold to account those who abuse the media as words sometimes damage national cohesion and stability. He added that the UAE under the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the keen follow-up of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has a clear approach in this regard. Security and safety are among the pillars of development and stability in the UAE. Terrorism Shaikh Hazza added that “Everybody knows that terrorism is a global threat which requires the commitment of all efforts to counter as it works on destroying development, disfiguring the achievements and seeks to destabilise peaceful coexistence, jeopardise security and safety and create sedition and division between the ranks of this unified country in order to destroy its stability and progress. “Those with terrorist agendas hide behind fake fronts of religion and dawah (preaching) to carry out their bigot plans and goals of creating sedition and division, which is against the teachings of Islam and its principles of tolerance, love and coexistence.” Shaikh Hazza said that thanks to UAE’s wise security policy and fair laws, such elements are not able to find a way to achieve their goals and implement their agendas. “Do not forget that this success relied mainly on Emiratis’ awareness of these suspicious plans, and their opposition to the destructive ideology which seeks to undermine their security, stability and achievements,” he said. Regarding any change to the national security policies, UAE is extremely committed to continuous development and does not rest on laurels, seeks to adopt the best practices and at the same time follows closely the global relevant developments. Therefore, we can say that practices are in in a state of continuous development and evolution thanks to the periodical reviews of policies and measures which proved to be a large-scale success. Friendly foreign policy Since its establishment by Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE has been keenly interested in extending a helping hand to every brotherly and friendly state as this is the core of the policy UAE leadership is committed to today, Hazza said. “First, out of its recognition of its humanitarian duty and second, out of its keen interest in building the best relations with all the world.” Shaikh Hazza said everybody now recognises the leading role UAE Armed Forces play in peacekeeping operations around the world as part of UAE cooperation with international organisations. “In doing so, UAE Armed Forces tap necessary expertise of brotherly and friendly states as well as sharpen their field skills, which makes them continue to play a professional role that we are all proud of,” Shaikh Hazza said. He hailed the armed forces for raising the UAE flag high and making an effective contribution in the international sphere. Source: Gulf News
